Bev-E Award Winners 2006
WINNER OF 2006 BEV-E AWARDS & Northern REGIONAL
Leoni – The Coffee House of Malton, North Yorkshire
Simon ROBERSTON has worked very hard to create a true café culture
at The Coffee House established 10 years ago. He hopes that his passion
for coffee has helped the coffee shop become something of an institution
in the town and his customers have even christened themselves “espresso
disciples” On receiving the award he said “ I am overjoyed
to voted the number one coffee shop in the country. This award is a
team effort and would not have been possible without the support and
dedication of my staff. They always go that extra mile when serving
customers which is why we are so successful and have such a loyal following.
Over the last ten years we have worked very hard to create a true café culture
and serve the very best coffee” Simon is an aficionado of coffee
and has been three times winner of the UK’s National Barista
Championships.

The 2006 BEV-E REGIONAL WINNERS were:
South West REGIONAL WINNER: Coffee # from Gloucester Road, Bishopton,
Bristol
James Shapland gave up a successful career in the City to establish
Coffee #1 and he now has 9 outlets across Bristol and Wales. The Gloucester
Road café is very cosy and inviting with a Canadian old store
feel. James says that his main focus is on serving the very best coffee
which is increasingly organic and Fairtrade and has recently been to
India to meet the farmers producing his coffee.

South East REGIONAL WINNER: The Chequers at Millbrook, Bedford.
Thomas POLTI runs The Chequers with this parent and brother. It is
located in a former pub and the building dates back over 300 years.
It was established 8 years ago with a view to creating a continental
style bar and restaurant. Being half Italian Thomas has a passion for
serving the very best coffee and in fact The Chequers has its own coffee
brand called Supremo.

Midlands REGIONAL WINNER: Bottle Kiln, West Hallan, Derbyshire
Rebecca STONE’s father established THE BOTTLE KILN 20 years ago.
It is located in a former 1920’s bottle kiln which is a listed
building and is now decorated in a contemporary style. Rebecca explained
that they have created their own roast of coffee which has a rich and
smooth flavour and is a big hit with customers. The Bottle Kiln is
a very tranquil place to enjoy coffee in landscaped Japanese themed
gardens.
