BSA Christmas Northern & Southern Region Meetings
The First Southern Region Christmas Dinner was
held at “The Pavilion” of Bristol Zoo. Ranald Paterson,
the BSA’s BEV-E Award Chairman, gave a short talk on the 2009
Awards and invited potential judges to come forward to participate
in this exciting initiative. This was followed by an insight into the
BSA field trip to Costa Rica with lots of chat and networking over
turkey with all the trimmings!
The Northern Christmas Meeting was
held at its traditional home at Rombalds Hotel in Ilkley, and was well
attended as usual. Reminiscent of our Southern colleagues we were entertained
by Derek Burgess and Brian Unkles (aka Little and Large) who gave us
a video presentation of the first BSA field trip to Costa Rica. It
was very well received, giving everyone a flavour of the trip, how
much it was enjoyed, how educational it was and hopefully giving everyone
an appetite to join our next field trip which will now be to India
in January/February 2010. Well done and thank you to Derek and Brian.
The meeting was a special occasion in that it marked
the last appearance at a BSA meeting of David Knott of Bravilor who
is retiring in February. He was presented with a large bottle of very
fine Rioja to mark the occasion. Let’s hope he shares it with
someone or he won’t remember much about it. David has been an
active supporter of the BSA since its inception, and Bravilor were
founder members. David’s contribution and friendship will be
greatly missed by all in the BSA, and we all wish him and Carol the
very best for their retirement.
